Governors

Longtown Community Primary School is fortunate in having an experienced and enthusiastic governing body, who each bring their own specific skills and experience. Together, they are able to use these abilities collectively in order to provide the school with the support and equally, the challenge it needs to thrive.

The governing body has a structure of full governing body meetings and two committees dealing with the areas of Education and Business.

The Chair of Governors may be contacted via the following address:  Mrs Kym Wilcocks, C/O Longtown Community Primary School, Longtown, Herefordshire, HR2 0LE

The Clerk to the Governors is Anne Lloyd who can be contacted via the school office.

The Governing Body pay allowances or reimbursement of costs incurred by governors in accordance with the procedure laid out in the school's Finance Policy.

Governor’s Annual Round-up 2018/19

As a new academic year begins here is a brief overview of the work of the Governing body for 2018/19;-

1) OFSTED inspection. As part of the process both the Chair and Vice Chair were interviewed by the inspector. The outcome was a resounding success and the report rightly recognised the quality of education provided for the children by exceptional staff.

2) The SLA (service level agreement) with Fairfield High school continued to provide support for SEND, Music, Finance and Executive Headship. The inspector probed us about this and was impressed with how it is working for the benefit of our small school.

3) Governors participated in training updates for Safeguarding and GDPR. We also reviewed a range of policies requiring attention.

4) We welcomed two new Parent Governors - Amy Williams and Pearl Pritchard  - to the Governing body. Amy joined the Business committee and Pearl the Education committee.

5) Termly Committee and full GB meetings took place. The focus was very much on the budget, standards and pupil progress, attendance, monitoring the SDP (school development plan) and receiving the Headteacher’s reports. We also held discussions with the parish council regarding traffic and parking outside the school.

We said a fond farewell to Klaus Waddell who had served as a Governor for some considerable years. He was responsible for getting the Pre-school on site and his knowledge of all things related to special needs was second to none. He took such a genuine interest in the school and all of us are extremely grateful for his support and encouragement.

We wish to thank the PTA and especially Leanne for all their hard work in raising funds for the school. The Governors appointed Mary Boustead as Head of school and were pleased to see her in the school liaising with Jane Barnes before the end of the summer term. Sue Gaston remains as our Executive HT providing support to Mary and the staff. The GB wish to thank Sue for all her support and advice throughout the year.

On the last day of term we made a presentation to Jane Barnes recognising the contribution she had made both as a teacher and as Assistant HT. It was a privilege to have worked alongside her and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude for everything she did for the children and staff at our school. We miss her and wish her well for the future.

Finally we thank you all for your continued support of Longtown Community Primary School.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD). My professional interests include the behavioural sciences and psychology. I live in Longtown and am currently employed in Hereford.  I have two grown-up daughters who were educated within Herefordshire and have careers in accountancy and dentistry. My hobbies include having fun and immersing my four grandsons in wisdoms from a life-lived, socialising with family and friends, gardening, the creative arts, listening to classical music, painting both watercolours and the DIY kind!

Amy Williams - Parent Governor - 4 year term - Business Committee

I was born and raised locally.  I am married with 3 children.  My 2 oldest children attend Fairfield High School and my youngest is currently at Longtown.  I am a partner in our farming business and am responsible for accounts and paperwork, but help out on the farm in busier times!

My professional background is Nursing.  After completing a BSc Nursing Degree in 2004, I started work in A&E.  After my first child was born, I reduced to part time hours and continued work on Gynaecology inpatients unit where I remained for many years.  From 2013, I have carried out 'bank work' for the school nursing service which fits around school hours.  I now have a specialist role in Women's and Children's services based in Hereford hospital and am currently undertaking MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Pearl Pritchard - Parent Governor - 4 year term - Education Committee

My working background is in business and accountancy and I am a working Mum and farmer's wife. I was born in the area, attended Longtown Primary School as a child and have lived locally all my life. As my children now attend the school, I still have a strong connection to it. My aim is to provide balanced and objective input to the governing body. I am pleased to have this opportunity to help and support the governing body to provide the highest standards of education and opportunities for the children to enjoy and benefit from their time at school.
